Saving money on gas and being smarter about auto protection seems to be on
everyone’s mind these days. We’re getting little relief at the pump, and we’re
starting to feel it in our bank accounts. So what can we do? It starts with
doing research and becoming a more informed consumer. This article will cover a
couple of gas buying techniques to help you drive for a little less every day.
Watch where you fill up
If you’re driving along and come across your favorite gas station, and you
happen to see a big ol' tanker there, don’t fill up there for a couple of days.
When that tanker pumps all those gallons of gas into the ground, it mixes with
the sediment and condensation – creating a potentially volatile mix that may
shorten the longevity of your fuel filter.
Fill up early in the morning
Gas that is stored deep down in tanks underneath gas stations heats up as the
day goes on. As the gas heats up, it creates extraneous vapors than end up
entering your vehicle as you pump – therefore giving you less gas for your
money. Filling up while the ground is cold will give you ever so slightly more
gas, and will not release bad gasses into the atmosphere.
Buy gas a couple days before any holidays
Gas prices always go up during holidays – fill up a few days before hand and
save yourself a couple of dollars. Also, if you’ve heard that gas is notoriously
cheaper on Wednesday – you’re right. You're only going to see the slightest of
savings if you choose to buy on Wednesday's only, but why not try it out?
