1.
From what component parts
is the Scratch Pad product made? Its principal
components are a high-tech, sponge-like rubber mat, two aluminum straps (the
backbone) to hold the mat rigid in place, vinyl-coated wire rope to suspend it
from your garage ceiling and various fasteners.
2.
The design seems simple enough,
why couldn’t I just copy it and make my own Scratch Pad? You could, but the
one-at-a-time cost of acquiring the component parts alone total well over sale
price of each model of the Scratch Pad. But the real deterrent to making your
own is YOUR LOST TIME to source out everything, order it, receive it and
assemble it – Autoscratchpad.com has saved you this enormous amount of personal
time. In a nutshell, you’re far better off buying the assembled product from us
– it’s ready to install and no mistakes.
3.
What is the size of the
Scratch Pad? The 2-door model is 3 feet by 3 feet;
the 4-door model is 3 feet by 4 feet. The pad is hung in the garage by a system
of wire ropes, furnished in the kit, which work in any standard-size residential
garage.
4.
How long does it take to
install the Scratch Pad? Routinely 45 minutes, once
you’ve got your ladder out and the necessary tools rounded-up. The Scratch Pad
device is already assembled in our factory; you only need to unpack it and
install it your garage with the guy wire system and fasteners, from
instructions, all of which we provide.
5.
What tools are necessary to
install a Scratch Pad? Nine tools commonly found in
the home are needed. A ladder to reach the ceiling of your garage, an electric
drill with drill bits to drill holes, an extension cord, if a cord drill is
used, a small crescent wrench to tighten the wire rope clamps, a wire cutter or
diagonal pliers to clip off the lengths of wire rope, a measuring tape, a bubble
or ‘spirit’ level to ensure the device is truly level, and a screwdriver to
twist the eye bolts tight.
6.
Do you provide simple to
understand installation instructions? Yes, the
step-by-step installation sheet that accompanies the product describes with text
and photos how installation is done so that you accomplish a safe and successful
installation the first time.
7.
Does Autoscratchpad.com
provide all of the necessary installation parts in the Scratch Pad kit?
The product kit provides the new Scratch Pad owner with the
necessary parts to install the pad in BOTH 1) a garage with open beams, and 2) a
garage with a dry-walled ceiling. Yes, the necessary parts for both of these
anchoring methods are provided with every Scratch Pad kit. What the new
Scratch Pad owner must purchase on their own is – and, only if they have an
‘open beams’ garage installation: An approx. 10 foot length of 1 inch diameter
closet hanger dowel from your local hardware or home improvement store.
The dowel doesn’t need to be painted; just placed across the cross-beams over
the space between the parked cars in the garage. This dowel is the ceiling
anchor for the Scratch Pad; without it, it is difficult to install the Scratch
Pad in an ‘open beam’ garage.
8.
How do I decide on whether
I need a 2-door model or a 4-door model? If one of
your vehicles is a 4-door vehicle, such as an SUV, sedan, a station wagon or
van, we suggest you install the 4-door model. The 2-door Scratch Pad only works
with vehicles parked side-by-side that are both just 2-door vehicles.
9.
Does the Scratch Pad hinder
the working of a garage door or garage door opener?
No, if installed correctly. The guy wires which suspend the Scratch Pad are
attached in locations which adequately clear the back edge of a garage door, and
will not interfere with electric garage door opener moving parts, motor or
wiring.
10.
Does the Scratch Pad come
with a product warranty? Yes, the Scratch Pad is
accompanied by a two-year limited warranty on parts and labor. We will replace
your Scratch Pad within two years of your purchase date should it fail, if
properly installed and stored. See the terms and conditions page of the product
website for the entire text of the limited warranty and product return policy.
11.
Are there child safety
features and warnings regarding the Scratch Pad?
Yes. First, the safety features. Any product or device that hangs freely from
the ceiling of a garage will attract young children to want to use the device as
a swing or toy. We have anticipated this temptation of young children into the
design of the Scratch Pad. The rubber mat and backbone aluminum straps are held
in place by the guy wire system which attaches the Scratch Pad to either 1) the
hanger dowel overhead in the ‘open beam’ ceiling garage, or 2) the four eye
bolts, secured by toggles, in the dry-walled ceiling of garage. In both
installations it is paramount that the side-guy wires (stretching out from the
centerline of the backbone at the center hole) are securely clamped at the
center hole and the eye bolt anchors overhead. These lateral or side-guy wires
stabilize the Scratch Pad and prevent swinging it or playing with it as a
swinging toy. We rely on no break-away feature of the hanging system which
could drop a young child to injury on a concrete garage floor.
No other such car finish and dent prevention
device has such an effective lateral stabilizing feature as the Scratch Pad –
designed directly to protect young children. Car garages are dangerous
locations for young children, and so they should not be left in a garage
unsupervised by adults – with or without a Scratch Pad present. Each Scratch
Pad product is accompanied with a red Child Safety Warning (in English and
Spanish) as a reminder.
12.
If I change my mind and
decide not to actually install the Scratch Pad, can I return it for a refund?
Yes, we offer a 30 day money back guarantee. Within 30 days of
receiving the merchandise you may return your order and a full refund will be
issued, less shipping costs. The customer is responsible for return shipping. If
the returned merchandise shows signs of assembly, there will be a 10% restocking
fee.
